The Mysteries of Puberty

Loved it! 😍

An informative and personal journaling journey for young girls going through puberty.

Content-wise, I thought this book was great! I appreciated that it starts with validating the questions and feelings that the young reader may be going through, listing questions the authors themselves had when nearing puberty. It also gently guides and encourages the reader to talk to trusted adults and define who these trusted people may be to them, to help list and create a support circle.

I believe the author does a great job describing changes in hormones and body growth in ways that are informative and empathetic, answering questions but not going into so much depth that it becomes overwhelming to grasp. After the introduction into the gist of what causes puberty and the main changes, there are sections that get a little deeper into how to handle them, including things like a thorough guide to bras, how to use different period products, what kind of discharge is normal, staying healthy and prepared during periods, ways to control unwanted hair and skin troubles, and tips for keeping healthy friendships and being happy with your personal health and body image.

Though at a glance this book is beautifully illustrated with fairies, flowers, and relatable young girls, some images are obviously AI-created.

Overall, however, this book offers a personable guide through puberty that I think I would have appreciated as a preteen. With fun elements like coloring pages and plenty of prompts and journaling space to record feelings and questions, it creates the feeling of a personal journey more than just being an informative textbook. I think it’s really sweet and adds a relatable layer that a 10-year-old was behind a lot of the book’s interactive design and the questions presented, too.

I would feel comfortable recommending this book as a resource for parents of young girls about to go through these life changes.
